No one wants to be OSCAR: cold, wet and brought back on deck by fellow crewmembers. The Water-Rescue Training Dummy™ from Emerald Marine Products makes it easy to practice man-overboard recoveries, without anyone jumping in.

OSCAR is a set of heavy-duty vinyl bladders that are filled with fresh or seawater, and connected with stainless steel hardware. Quickly assembled with a 15/16″ wrench, it becomes the size of a 6′, 180 lb. adult. Used to abuse from its crewmates, it can withstand repeated drops overboard from any realistic height. It has a pair of shoulder-high galvanized shackles for easy moving.

After use, the bladders quickly empty and OSCAR breaks down for easy transport. It weighs only 35 lbs. dry, much to the relief of training personnel.

Because OSCAR has no sharp edges, it can be outfitted with a PFD or survival suit. In every way, it imitates an unconscious, lifeless MOB victim, floating at chest level. Whether used by a commercial mariner, EMS or other rescue professional, this device provides the means to obtain real-world recovery skills, without putting someone in the water.

OSCAR is built from high-quality components in the USA. It comes with a one-year warranty on parts and labor, and costs $699. A video is at bit.ly/2h3AVEY.
